Warden Message
U.S. Embassy – Ouagadougou
February 28, 2008
The U.S. Embassy is issuing this Warden Message to alert American citizens to multiple reports of disturbances in Ouagadougou today at several locations including the Patte d'Oie traffic circle, Baskuy, Dapoya, Tompouy and Gounghin Nord. These disturbances have included groups of demonstrators who, depending on the location, have set fire to tires and trash, and damaged signs and other property.
The U.S. Embassy urges Americans to remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel. Americans should monitor local news sources and look for additional updates from the embassy as details become available.
Please note that the U.S. Embassy, the American Recreation Center and the American Language Center will be closed today. The International School of Ouagadougou closed at noon. The U.S. Embassy currently plans to reopen for business on Friday, February 29, unless circumstances require its continued closure.
U.S. Citizens with any additional information regarding this or any other security incident are strongly encouraged to contact the Embassy at 50-30-67-23 or 50-31-26-60.
The Embassy urges all citizens to register and update their contact information with the U.S. Embassy. If you would like to update your registration, please send us a copy of your passport, telephone number, and email address to the fax number or email address listed below. If neither fax nor email is available to you, please call the embassy with your updated contact information.
