USA Bound!

On June 18, the USA-Education Center of the American Embassy organized its first pre-departure orientation for Burkinabe students heading to America for summer and long term studies. Special attention was given to eight university students selected for a new Fulbright program in Burkina Faso -- the  “Africa English Studies Program.”  They will receive 8 weeks of intensive English language training at three American universities: Arizona State, Syracuse University, and Ohio State.   Other attendees were Fulbrighters who will study for their Masters’ Degrees.  Their morning program included presentations by the USA-Education Center advisors, a talk on ‘culture shock” by the Director of the American Language Center, and a former Fulbrighter spoke about her experience in the United States, and offered  her listeners a few  study tips. At the end of the formal program, the students were invited to a lunch at the U.S. Ambassador’s residence for an ‘all American lunch’ of hot dogs, hamburgers, chips and lots of soft drinks.
