TraDE hosts Workshop for Burkina Faso Access Program Teachers
The American Language Center of the US Embassy in Ouagadougou sent three teachers from the Access English Microscholarship program to a workshop December 5-6, 2008 in Bobo-Dioulasso. The workshop was hosted by traDE, the Embassy’s Access program partner in Bobo-Dioulasso. Five English instructors from Ouagadougou and Bobo-Dioulasso plus the director and course coordinator of traDE participated.
ALC teacher Mr. Georges Ouédraogo and traDE teacher Mrs. Pascaline Konda, who both attended the Oregon State University, USA Access Summer 2008 teacher workshop, were key speakers. This workshop allowed them to share the summer Access training as well as their experiences in the USA. Participants also shared classroom experiences and best practices. They also explored ways make the Burkina Access program an innovative teaching program through technology, student exchanges, and other teaching tools.
Through this workshop, the US Embassy partnered with traDE to reinforce U.S. support for quality English language instruction at the secondary school level in Burkina Faso. Training Access teachers demonstrates the Embassy’s commitment to improving this vital outreach program to Burkinabe youth. Through this workshop, the Access teachers formulated a number of strategies for making the Access program an innovative teaching program for Burkina Faso. The capacity building of these teachers will have a direct and positive impact on their Access students, preparing them for future studies and the international job market.
