Conference on the Results of the November 4 presidential Elections in the U.S.
On November 13, 2008, American Embassy Ouagadougou hosted a conference on the results of the November 4 presidential elections in the United States. The conference was led by three special envoys to the American elections: Augustin Loada, a participant in the International Visitor (IV) program, "I vote 2008"; Brahima Ouedraogo, a participant in the Elections 2008 Visiting Journalist Program; and Dieudonne Zoungrana, an IV alumnus and journalist who covered the November 4, 2008 elections from the United States.
This conference brought together many university professors and some political party leaders along with the general public to share the experiences of the three special envoys. After an opening speech by the Director of the Cultural Center, each speaker talked about his personal experience as a witness to the U.S. election. Following the formal presentations, which included photos of Election Day 2008, attendees had the opportunity to pose questions and a lively debate ensued. Everyone agreed that Barack Obama's election affirmed, that even with some imperfections, democracy is working in the United States of America. It is also a symbol for the rest of the world that change can happen, but not without determination and hard work.
