Book Discussion: Forgiveness in International Politics, an alternative Road to Peace

On October 24, 2008, the Martin Luther King library held a book discussion on the Nouveaux Horizons title, Forgiveness in International Politics: An alternative to Road Peace by William Bole, Drew Christiansen and Robert T. Hennemeyer.

Dr. Jocelyne Vokouma, anthropologist, teacher and researcher at CNRST, led the discussion. Fifty-six participants including lawyers, journalists, university teachers, NGOs workers, political parties’ militants attended the program.

In her welcome remarks, the Director of the American Cultural Center said that the theme developed in the book is particularly relevant due to Burkina Faso's role as a mediator in Africa, its position on the Security Council, and the general problem of religious and political intolerance around the world.

Several participants were quite vocal with their opinions on the role of forgiveness in international politics, which led to a very animated discussion.  Dr. Vokouma argued that forgiveness is a virtue to be cultivated if we want progress in society.  The MLK Library provided all attendees news articles on forgiveness in politics, library brochures, and InfoUSA CD-roms.
