The American Language Center celebrates the end of July session
On Saturday, August 1, 2009, Consular Officer Noah Geesaman presided over a ceremony in Ouagadougou to mark the end of the July 2009 intensive language program for secondary education students. 114 students from many secondary schools received certificates of participation after completing a four-week program of English classes. These classes were taught by the US Embassy’s American Language Center. With this program, the US Embassy reinforces U.S. government support for quality English instruction among Burkinabe youth across religious, ethnic, and social lines. Participating in the program better equips these students linguistically to cross social and cultural barriers and gives them decided educational advantages. The program focused on aspects of American history, society, and culture. It is noteworthy that the program also included environmental education that helped raise the students’ awareness of local and national environmental issues.
