Embassy Officer Mazengia opens 2008 Earth Day conference at the American Cultural Center
Earth Day 2008

In order to commemorate Earth Day 2008, the Public Affairs Section and "AMIFOB", the Fellowship of Burkinabe Women Managers of Forest Resources, organized a conference on Pollution at the American Cultural Center on April 22, 2008.  The audience, over 80 people, was a composed of Ministry of Environment specialists, members of AMIFOB, students from the Engineering Institute for Water and the Environment, graduates from the University of Ouagadougou, and the general public. 

The conference moderator presented air, water, fuel and dust pollution issues in Burkina.  He focused on how to reduce this pollution by using new cars and unleaded gas; collecting and treating waste water; building gutters; and planting and preserving trees.  The audience asked questions regarding the management and prevention of plastic pollution, polluted water from the national hospital and waste water in the city, the production and use of bio-fuels, and the quality of unleaded gasoline found in Africa.
