Workshop on Avian Influenza

A two-day workshop on issues related to avian influenza was held March 14-15, 2007 in Dakar, Senegal. The workshop was attended by more than a dozen journalists from West and Central Africa. Burkina Faso was represented by Sigue Beldh'Or Cheick Aboubacar from the independent newspaper Le Pays. The workshop allowed the participating journalists to discuss the various forms of avian influenza, preparation for a possible pandemic situation, the status of the avian flu in West Africa, and priorities for the sub-region. The workshop also touched on the economic and commercial consequences of avian influenza for West Africa and neighboring regions as well as the role of the press in disseminating information since 2006.
