Ambassador Jeanine Jackson
Welcome from Ambassador Jeanine Jackson

Welcome to the U.S. Embassy website.  I hope that you will find the information and links useful and informative.  As the relationship between the U.S. and Burkina Faso deepens, we hope to harness the expanding influence of the internet in West Africa to provide a virtual information space to more Burkinabe who are interested in learning about the United States.  Through this website, visitors can learn about recent U.S. Embassy events, conduct research on U.S. Government policy related to Burkina Faso and the region, and even pose individual questions to our librarians.

With our Burkinabe partners, the U.S. Government strives to promote democracy and human rights, spur economic growth and development, and ensure regional stability.

Burkina Faso is eligible for the Africa Growth and Opportunity Act (AGOA) which grants tariff-free entry of over 6000 items to the U.S.  Burkina Faso became eligible for financing by the Millennium Challenge Corporation several years ago.  The first project provided 132 primary school complexes and promotes girls primary education.  Currently, MCC is evaluating additional projects proposed by the government of Burkina Faso.  The goal of MCC is to finance projects that will provide long-term, sustainable development and reduce poverty. Last year USAID provided over $21 million in development assistance and Burkina Faso received part of a $38 million food assistance grant designed to alleviate malnutrition in the Sahel region.  There are over 100 Peace Corps Volunteers in Burkina Faso working in education, health and small enterprise development.  The U.S. also funds projects related to health, agriculture, human rights, good governance, and trade.  We have also increased our military-to-military cooperation and training programs.

The U.S. Embassy in Ouagadougou works hard to increase people-to-people exchanges between Americans and Burkinabe.  In addition to this virtual information space, the American Cultural Center operates a public-access library where patrons can find additional resources about the United States.  We have “American Corners” in Bobo, Fada and Zorgho. Our Consular Section provides information on travel and immigration to the United States and assists American citizens resident in Burkina Faso.

I hope you will find this new website helpful and that you will check back regularly to see the latest information and features that we will be constantly adding to the site.

Sincerely,

Jeanine Jackson

Ambassador
