American Language Center honors students

To mark the end of its 2007/2008 academic year, the American Language Center (ALC) in Ouagadougou organized its annual student award ceremony on September 3, 2008.  In this ceremony presided over by Ambassador Jackson, 15 students representing a wide cross-section of Burkinabe and international community professionals were recognized for taking at least 168 hours of English classes at the ALC during the year.  An additional 22 students completed the highest advanced level of the program and effectively graduated from the ALC.  Mr. Saïdou Kindo, the ALC student of the year, summed up the feelings of his fellow students when he remarked during his speech, “…an institution like the American Language Center and the English training program it provides is vital for us.”  The American Language Center continues to be a well known and well respected source of high quality English instruction for adult professionals in Burkina Faso.  Through its English teaching programs, the ALC regularly reaches an audience spanning the entire professional spectrum.   Not only does the ALC reinforce U.S. support for quality English instruction for Burkinabe and the international community in Ouagadougou, but it also engages its professional students on key strategic themes by teaching communicative English through critical content.  The ALC continues to serve as an effective tool for promoting English proficiency, a critical marketable skill for professionals of this French-speaking country for their economic development and competitive edge in the international marketplace.
