US Embassy graduates 20 Access English Microscholarship Students
On July 23, 2009, the Acting Director of the American Cultural Center, David Andresen, presided over a ceremony in Ouagadougou to recognize those students who completed the Access English Microscholarship program. 20 students from Lycée Daroul Houda received certificates after completing a two-year program of supplementary English classes. These Access classes were taught at Lycée Daroul Houda by the US Embassy’s American Language Center. With this program, the US Embassy reinforces U.S. government support for quality English instruction among Burkinabe youth. This program is a major public outreach program to young populations in Burkina Faso. Participating in the Access English Microscholarship program better equips these students linguistically and thereby makes them more competitive in terms of their future education and professional development. In addition, they have received an enriching educational experience which allowed them to learn about American history, society, and culture.
